Since the initial idea of the Zadar conductor Pavle Dešpalj and its coming to fruition, 47 festival years have already passed, making the Musical Evenings in St Donatus' one of the oldest Croatian festivals. Its quality and the ingenuity and concept of its programmes bring refreshment to the hot Zadar summer nights each year.

Over the years, 'Musical Evenings' has established itself as a festival that clearly maintains the urban character of its setting. Year after year, the concerts affirm Zadar's history and tradition through fusing music and architecture.

Early, chamber and orchestral music are the three basic elements of the modern festival, and many of the best performers come to play. Home talent, top-class foreign guests and ventures into other musical genres are just some of the features of the Evenings' programmes.
