The island of Galešnjak
The first engagement on the island of love, one of four heart-shaped islands in the world, has been celebrated. Two young Muscovites - Miklail Sarukhanov and Valentina Moros decided to take this step on the beautiful islet of Galešnjak in the Pašman Channel.
The organizers of the event were the TRS Association from Preko, which set up the project with the aim of promoting the island and the brand of the "Croatian Island of Love".
Galešnjak was only "discovered" in 2008 by the Internet search tool Google Earth. CNN did a report on the island being one of several natural heart-shaped phenomena. Google Earth published its story on Galešnjak exactly 202 years after the publication of Napoleon's famous "Map of Dalmatia", on which Napoleon's cartographers very clearly drew Galešnjak as a heart-shaped islet. The islet of Galešnjak, which is owned of the Jureško family, is interesting due to its heart-shaped form, and as such is desirable in the tourist promotion of the natural beauties of Croatia. The islet is situated in the Pašman Channel between the village of Mrljane on Pašman and the village of Turanj on the mainland. Its area is 0.132 km2, and the length of its coastal belt is 1,545 metres. Its highest point is 36 metres above sea level.
The presentation of the islet of Galešnjak has given rise to the idea of linking the "Croatian Island of Love" with the three other heart-shaped islands in different parts of the world into a "World Archipelago of Love". Support for Galešnjak and the promotion of the natural beauties of the Croatian coast was obtained from the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports, the Croatian Tourist Association and the Home on the Beach Educational Centre.
