Komiža/island of Vis
The waters off the island of Vis are known for their islands: Brusnik, Sveti Andrija, Jabuka, and Palagruža. Some of them are periodically visited by Mediterranean seals. A special attraction on the island of Biševo, and a unique phenomenon in the Adriatic Sea, is the Blue Cave (Modra Špilja), which has been visited by tens of thousands of tourists.
We recommend that you visit the following:
- St. Nicholas', a 13th-century monastery, better known as Muster
- Kaštel, a 16th-century Venetian tower in the harbour and home of the Fishermen's Museum
- the 13th-century Romanesque church
- the 16th-century Baroque shrine
- buildings in the secessionist style
If you are interested in culture and entertainment, definitely visit the Fishermen's Museum and enjoy the music and performances of Komiža’s cultural summer. From nearby restaurants, pedestrians can hear the hums and harmonies of a cappella klapa signing. For more than 25 years, Komiža ballet instructor Joze Borčić has held an international ballet school during the summer in Komiža. Here, students from all over the world increase their knowledge and become dancing perfectionists in classical ballet, pop and modern jazz. Every year, at the end of the course, a student ballet concert is held in the Memorial Auditorium, which is enjoyed by a large number of Vis’ guests.
