Šipan harbour can be approached from the open sea only in good weather, through a narrow strait known by the name of Harpoti. When there is severe southerly wind (jugo), ships, as well as smaller boats, must make a big detour and enter from the north, protected by the land and the islands. Above the Harpoti Strait there is a power cable at a height of 45 metres.

Except during storms and the northerly tramontana, Šipan harbour is the safest harbour of the archipelago (the Elaphite Islands).
Mooring:
- On the 40-metre-long pier – depths on both sides of the pier are around 2 metres, and at the foot of the pier 2.8 metres. The foot of the pier is the best place to berth with a sailing yacht. In the evening, the passenger ship from Dubrovnik docks on the inner side of the pier (towards the harbour), and as a rule the outer side of the pier is reserved for bigger tourist boats.

- On the quayside, there is an organised reception for vessels mooring. The depth near the pier is around 2 metres and vessels are tied to the moorings stern-on to the quayside. There is space for around ten vessels. In July and August, in order to be sure to find a berth on the quayside, you should be there before 5 p.m. Mr. Tomo charges for the mooring service. The price is 10 kuna per metre of boat. The price includes filling the tanks with water. Electricity is available from private houses and is charged additionally.

-
- Number of berths: 10
- Price by metre of boat – 1.36 euros
- Filling tanks with water is included in the price, but power connection is charged extra
Warning: the mooring support is far from the shore and there is the danger of propeller entanglement.

On the south-western side of the harbour, there is a pier about 20 metres long. The depth in front of the pier is 2.5 metres, so it is safe for most sailing yachts.

In front of the "Kod Marka" restaurant (on the western side of the bay), there are three buoys for the needs of the restaurant’s guests.

Anchoring:
It is possible to anchor in the entire harbour. It is important to leave enough manoeuvring space for the passenger ship which comes in the evening hours and at night on the inner side of the pier.
Anchoring in Šipan harbour is not recommended in unstable weather conditions. The bottom does not hold the anchor well enough during summer storms, especially during the tramontana winds after storms, which are severe in the bay. In such cases, anchors often begin to slide.
