Cliffs/Cres

On this side of Cres, there is not a single inhabited settlement. The coast is full of sharp rocks with small sandy beaches. The area is criss-crossed with dry stone walls.

A dry stone wall is a land partition made of layers of stone connected without mortar, mainly using natural stone. In addition, concrete elements with a rough finished surface or which are shaped are used. Dry stone walls serve as protection from prying and the wind and as a garden fence. On slopes and hilltops, they prevent the land from sliding. Their nooks offer habitat to plants and animals. Dry stone wall shouldn't be higher than 1.2 metres on slopes of around 10 degrees, otherwise there is the danger of them collapsing.
