A few important tips from the Hvar Nautical Centre, the concession owner:
- anchoring in Hvar harbour is not allowed;
- to communicate with the concession owner use channel 9 VHF;
- during high season, the harbour is very busy and everybody is advised to be patient;
- How does one get a mooring place? Take a free buoy by 9 o’clock in the morning or cruise and wait for one to become available. Concession employees will come and meet you in a dinghy and take you to a free buoy. After 12 o’clock, there are usually no free mooring places or buoys. Around 50% of vessels coming into the harbour can not find a free mooring place;
- your crew may disembark on shore and go for a walk or get supplies while your are waiting for a mooring place;
- if you only need to recharge batteries and fill-up your water tank, it would be best to come between 12 and 1 o’clock. Should it take you more than an hour, you will have to pay the full mooring fee;
- Hvar harbour is safe during the bura, while the sirocco makes the sea swell and mooring on the shore is not allowed;
- alternative Hvar harbours are ACI Palmižana and Stari Grad.
