Sali/Dugi Otok
In Saljsko Polje on Dugi Otok, there is an olive grove that has been protected as a special feature of the landscape. There are olive trees that are more than 700 years old. Because of the age and size of the trees, this grove has a unique botanical, aesthetic and tourist value. According to tradition, it was planted by the ancient Greeks 2,000 years when they dwelt on Dugi Otok. The longevity of the trees is obvious from their width and the unusual shape of their trunks and crowns. The oil made from these olives is not of a very good quality, as they cannot be picked from trees, but have to be picked from the ground. There is a huge number of trees belonging to the Church and those are marked with a red cross.
